Gagaku is a traditional music of the Japanese Imperial court. The music has been introduced from ancient China, Korea and Southeast Asia. And finally, it was compleated with all of the many forms of native Japanese Shinto music about 1,500 years ago. The orchestral music of Gagaku instrument is considered as one of the oldest orchestral musics in the world, and its artistic and historical value is highly evaluated. In Gagaku, there are several typs of wind instruments such as "Housho" that expresses the sacred light from a heaven, "Ryuteki" represents the roar of dragon circling in the sky, "Hichiriki" symbolizes the voice of human being or earth. And it has been said the harmony of these notes shows eternal peace of the entire universe. |
